WEEKEND TV : Pearl Harbor Shows; Holiday Specials Too

News specials on the 50th anniversary of the “date which will live in infamy” will abound, but the weekend will also feature some special holiday-season entertainment and goodwill.

“Nureyev’s Nutcracker,” Sunday at 2:25 p.m. on Bravo, is a Paris Ballet production of the Christmas favorite choreographed by the great Russian dance star, Rudolph Nureyev.

Meanwhile, the animated “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol,” Sunday at noon on the Disney Channel, stars the myopic Mr. Magoo as Scrooge. A live-action version of the Dickens classic “Scrooge,” will air Sunday at 9 p.m. on Channel 9. Albert Finney plays the title role in this 1970 musical.

Channel 5, meanwhile, plays up the World War II theme with a telecast of “The Best Years of Our Lives,” Sunday at 6 p.m. This 1946 William Wyler film, which tells the story of three servicemen returning to their hometowns, stars Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Myrna Loy and Harold Russell.

Also Sunday beginning at 1 p.m., Spanish language station KMEX Channel 34 will broadcast the 19th annual “Navidad en El Barrio” telethon live from the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The eight-hour program is designed to raise funds to help needy Latino families in Southern California celebrate Christmas with food and toys bought with public donations.
