North to Sign Book Monday at Nixon Library

Oliver L. North, the former Marine Corps officer who played a central role in the Iran-Contra scandal, will touch down in Orange County on Monday to sign books at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace.

North’s helicopter is scheduled to land at the library at 4:30 p.m., after an appearance at Camp Pendleton. He is to sign copies of his new book, “Under Fire: An American Story,” until 6 p.m., library officials said.

Those wishing to see North will not have to pay admission to the library, which opened in July, 1990, and is at 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd.

Library officials heard that North was going to be in the area and invited him to sign books, said Sandy Quinn, a marketing consultant at the library. The former lieutenant colonel accepted late last week.

“His assistant said North was a fan of President Nixon’s and had heard about the library and would like to see it,” she said.

“This is his first appearance in Orange County in connection with this book,” Quinn said. “The reaction has been great. I think we’ll see a very sizable turnout.”
