YORBA LINDA : Long Beach Official Named to City Post

A Long Beach public works administrator has been named the new assistant city manager, succeeding Bruce Channing.

David A. Gruchow, 36, the administrative officer of the Long Beach Public Works Department, will take the position on Jan. 6. His duties include budget preparation, risk management and employee development. Channing resigned to become the first city manager of the soon-to-be-incorporated city of Laguna Hills.

Gruchow has been with the city of Long Beach for 16 years, serving as administrative assistant to the city manager and administrative analyst. In his current post, he prepares a department budget of $122 million and a capital improvement budget of $32 million. His duties also have included legislative analysis, customer service improvement, risk management and employee training.

Gruchow received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public administration from Cal State Long Beach.
