NHL ROUNDUP : Flames Outslug Sabres, 4-2

Gary Roberts scored twice and the Calgary Flames beat the Buffalo Sabres, 4-2, Sunday night at Buffalo, N.Y., in a fight-filled game in which 10 players were ejected in the first period.

A fight began while the teams were making line changes in the opening period. It took 29 minutes to restore order after referee Don Koharski sorted out the penalties.

Koharski handed out a total of 147 minutes in the brawl, 75 to Calgary and 72 to Buffalo.

New Jersey 2, Philadelphia 2--Stephane Richer and Kevin Todd scored in the final five minutes and the Devils salvaged a 2-2 tie with with the Flyers at Philadelphia.

N.Y. Rangers 4, Bruins 0--At New York, Mike Richter recorded the Rangers’ first shutout of the Bruins since Ed Giacomin blanked them in 1969.

Winnipeg 4, Washington 3--Defenseman Teppo Numminen scored at 15:17 of the third period and the Jets extended their unbeaten string to 10 games in beating the Capitals at Winnipeg.

Chicago 7, Minnesota 2--Steve Larmer had three goals and two assists as the Blackhawks routed the North Stars at Chicago.

Edmonton 3, San Jose 1--Vince Damphousse had a goal and an assist as the Oilers defeated the Sharks at Edmonton. It was the first victory for the Oilers over the Sharks in three tries.
