Freddy Krueger won’t be there, but on Friday the 13th, there’s going to be a Toys for Tots benefit in Oxnard, and some of Freddy’s favorite bands will be there for the 7 to 10 p.m. show.

It’s billed as the “Second Annual Ill Repute & Friends--Tunes & Toys for Tots Benefit Show.” Oxnard thrash masters Ill Repute, who have a mess of albums and have been around longer than you have, will be bringing along some of their friends. One set of them, the Mudheads, might be the best band in the 805 area code. Their all-original roots-rock sound features powerful vocals by Bill Coffey and two percussionists. Also appearing will be rockabilly rockers Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and more thrash bands--Global Warning, Arch Enemy and Wonderbug.

Co-sponsored by Rent-a-Wreck and Fleet Reserve Assn. Branch 120, it all happens at 5236 Saviers Road, Oxnard. And it’s all free, if you consider a $5 toy free. In any event, for that many bands, it’s a deal.

“It’s just a big old hall,” said Carl Valdez of Ill Repute. “We played there last year and drew more than 150 people. It’s sort of like a VFW, Legion Hall kind of place. We did it last year, and we want to do it every year. Everything is donated--the hall, the security and the flyers.”

And all you need is a $5 toy.
