Woman, 83, Killed Crossing Street
An 83-year-old Burbank woman was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing a street near her home, Burbank police reported.
Sophie Weiss was crossing at Verdugo Avenue and Reese Place at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a car driven by Orvil Unsworth, 65, of Burbank, Officer Ron Caruso said. Weiss was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, Caruso said.
No charges have been filed in the case, which was still under investigation, Caruso said.
