SIMI VALLEY : Plan to Build Gyms, Stadium Revived

Share

The Simi Valley school board has revived a plan to build a second high school football stadium and three new junior high school gymnasiums.

The school board voted this week to investigate whether Community Development Agency funds from the city could be used to finance the construction. Voters defeated an $8-million bond measure for the projects two years ago.

Royal High School would be the site of the new $3.1 million stadium.

The gymnasiums, which would each cost about $2.5 million, would be built at Sequoia, Sinaloa and Valley View junior high schools. Hillside, the city’s other junior high school, would get about $850,000 for a multipurpose room.

The school district receives about $300,000 each year from the Community Development Agency, Deputy Supt. Mary Beth Wolford said.

In other business, the school board voted to ratify a three-year contract for the district’s 800 teachers. The contract includes no cost-of-living increase; however, teachers could get a 2% to 4% raise for the 1991-92 school year if the district changes from a self-insured medical plan to one offered by a private company.
