An assistant city manager in Downey has won the job of city manager for South Pasadena.

Ken Farsing, who was hired this week, will assume the post Jan. 20, replacing former City Manager John Bernardi, who left the city in August to take over the same position in Loma Linda.

Farsing, an Alhambra resident, will receive an annual salary of $86,000. He has served as an assistant city manager in Downey since 1988. Before that, he spent seven years in La Verne’s community development department.

The task of updating South Pasadena’s General Plan, the blueprint of the city’s development objectives, is awaiting Farsing.
