WEEKEND TV : A Classic Season to Sing, Dance

Share

Singing, dancing and laughing might very well transform this frenzied shopping weekend into “A Wonderful Life.”

The singing kicks in tonight at 9 as ABC (7)(3)(10)(42) presents “Two Rooms: Tribute to Elton John & Bernie Taupin.” Sting, Phil Collins and George Michael are among those performing in this hourlong special to honor the popular songwriting duo.

Laugh later in the evening at 11:30 p.m. when NBC’s (4)(36)(39) “Saturday Night Live” repeats Christmas sketches culled from 15 seasons of the late night TV staple. Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Eddie Murphy and Bill Murphy all pop up on tape.

Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland dance their way through “The Nutcracker” Sunday at 5 p.m. on Channel 28. The 1 1/2-hour American Ballet Theatre presentation of Tchaikovsky’s holiday fable was taped in 1977.

And for those who can’t get enough of Jimmy Stewart in Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life,” this is your weekend. The Christmas film classic airs four times this weekend: today at 1 p.m. on Channel 7 and again at 3:30 p.m. on the Disney Channel, as well as 2 p.m. Sunday on Channel 9 and then at 5:30 p.m. on TNT.
