Gearing up for the holiday season, two county cities set up sobriety checkpoints this weekend to combat drunk driving.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, the Brea Police Department set up a checkpoint on Imperial Highway and Viking Avenue. Officers conducted 56 sobriety tests and made 12 arrests on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. One of those arrested was held on suspicion of possessing drugs.

The drunk-driving suspects were taken to Brea police headquarters then released on their own recognizance, police said. The drug suspect was transported to the Orange County Jail.
