CS Fullerton Replaces Long Beach on UCLA’s 1992 Football Schedule

Cal State Fullerton has replaced Cal State Long Beach, which recently dropped its football program, on UCLA’s 1992 schedule. The game will be played Sept. 12 at the Rose Bowl.

“It has not been easy to find an opponent on such short notice because schools usually schedule five to 10 years ahead,” said Peter Dalis, UCLA athletic director. “Fullerton had to shift its schedule to accommodate our needs, and we certainly appreciate their effort.”

Fullerton, which had scheduled Cal State Northridge and Cal State Sacramento to open its season, will open with Northridge Sept. 5, then play UCLA and travel to Georgia before returning home to meet CS Sacramento.

Earlier this year, Titan Athletic Director Bill Shumard dropped Hawaii from the schedule and replaced it with Northridge.

“I want us to play a schedule more conducive to how we compete,” he said at the time.

“I realize that to accommodate this game is a bit of a turn from the direction we’re trying to head the program,” Shumard said Monday.

Fullerton, which is 3-20 over the last two seasons, will receive about $200,000 from the UCLA game.
