Children’s Nature Programs--The Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim will continue to sponsor a series of Saturday children’s nature programs in the new year.

The program schedule for January is:

* Saturday--”Endangered Species--What Can We Do?” is the subject of this week’s program, which begins at 10 a.m. Children will learn what species are in particular danger.

* Jan. 11--”Feathered Friends,” which begins at 10 a.m., features an informal walk to seek out and identify birds. Some of the birds to be spotted at the center this time of year include yellow-rumped warblers, dark-eyed juncos, white-crowned sparrows and yellow-crowned sparrows.

* Jan. 18--A parent/child workshop entitled “Fruits, Nuts and Seeds” will be held at 1 p.m. It features a walk through the nature center to observe seed types and taste the wild fruits that grow there. There is a fee for this program, and preregistration is required.

* Jan. 25--”Earthquakes and Volcanoes” will be held at 10 a.m.

All but the Jan. 18 program are free and open to children ages 6 to 10. The center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road, Anaheim. Call (714) 998-8380 for more information.

Wetlands Tours--Guided public tours of the Bolsa Chica wetlands will be held Saturday morning. The tours, sponsored by Amigos de Bolsa Chica, begin at 9 a.m. They will depart about every 20 minutes from the wetlands’ ecological reserve. The last group will leave at 10:30 a.m.

Those who would like to take the tour are asked to meet at the ecological reserve, on Pacific Coast Highway, about half a mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.
