Tax Ruling

Share

Looks as if there is a Robin Hood after all! In the ruling on the case, Rider vs. County of San Diego, the real winner is the taxpayer, but you wouldn’t know it by the press. The way the local press is reacting to the recent court’s ruling regarding the county’s jails-courts tax leads me to question whether our news people are awake! One TV anchorman actually referred to the illegally assessed and held .5% sales tax as a “glitch” for the city and the county of San Diego. Little wonder Supervisor Susan Golding and Mayor Maureen O’Connor have fallen like hyenas on their prey . . . our $330 million!

Should we remind them that a rollback in sales tax is a direct way (circumventing governments multitude of middlemen) to stimulate our economy and most equitably compensate the victim . . . the taxpayer? This decision, if applied to other county districts throughout California, could save California taxpayers $10 billion.

With the United States moving into No. 1 position with its per capita incarcerations . . . and California with more than any other state, maybe we should question a judicial system which defines more and more of us as criminals. The real crooks were those who circumvented the 1978 landmark tax-cutting initiative, Proposition 13!
