Amtrak Is Back on Schedule

Share

Amtrak trains running between San Diego and Los Angeles were back on schedule Saturday after a vandalized switching control and an unrelated power outage stranded thousands of passengers along the route Friday.

Passengers taking the San Diegan trains were delayed from one hour to 3 1/2 hours at all 10 stations from Los Angeles through Orange County to San Diego. Eight trains were delayed, and four were canceled.

An Amtrak spokesman said trains were running normally by 10:05 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Amtrak had nine trains running southbound and two trains northbound from San Diego to Los Angeles.

“We’re back on schedule,” a spokesman in Los Angeles said.

The power outage debilitated all the electronic switches along the 129-mile route, as well as some switches designed to work in unison with the signals.

There was no further information on the vandalism.
