California IN BRIEF : BELMONT : Stolen Cocaine Returned to Police

Thirty-three pounds of cocaine stolen from the county narcotics task force headquarters mysteriously reappeared outside the office days later, authorities said. Investigators were baffled as to who returned the cocaine Monday, six days after it was discovered missing from the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force, said sheriff’s Lt. Bruce Horan. The cocaine, worth $1.5 million on the street, was on loan from local law enforcement agencies for sting operations. Police noticed that it waas missing after an alarm went off at the office Dec. 24 and they found the door broken. Detectives had no suspects, Horan said.
