Two men were ordered to stand trial in an attack on a gay man in North Park that prosecutors now say is unrelated to a series of street attacks in the area.

Randall Rolling, 19, and Richard Gorondy, 18, will be arraigned Jan. 22 in Superior Court on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a replica of a weapon.

At Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, Municipal Judge Charles L. Patrick reduced bail for both men, originally set at $25,000, to $15,000 for Rolling and $7,500 for Gorondy.

“At this time, we do not believe they are associated with any other cases in the area,” Deputy Dist. Atty. John Rice said.

The weapon used in the Dec. 18 attack on Miguel Martinez-Herrera was a replica of a gun used by the German Army in World War II. A witness at the preliminary hearing, Joseph Rogalski Jr., testified that Rolling was his roommate and that the weapon came from Rolling’s “military collection room.”

After the arrest of the two men, police reported finding Nazi memorabilia at the house, raising suspicion that the attack was a hate crime committed by skinheads.
