Federal Government Will Buy Alternative-Fuel Cars: The General Services Administration said it will buy 2,500 “flex-fuel” cars, which can run on either gasoline or methanol, and 25 vans powered by natural gas, all from Chrysler Corp. The GSA will also buy 600 General Motors Corp. natural-gas pickup trucks. The Chrysler deal is worth $21.7 million; the GM buy, $10 million. GSA is expected to buy 50,000 new cars, trucks and vans for its interagency fleet this fiscal year.
