Human Skull, Bones Unearthed by Crew

Share

A human skull and bones were unearthed Wednesday by a crew digging a trench for telephone wires.

The bones were found 7 feet under the sidewalk in the 3800 block of West Commonwealth Avenue and included a complete skull, femur bones and ribs, all from the same person, Deputy Coroner Cullen Ellingburgh said.

Judy Suchey, an anthropology professor at Cal State Fullerton, is scheduled to examine the bones today to determine specifics, such as height, weight and sex. Most important for police, Suchey will try to determine how old the bones are.

“We could be looking at an ancient burial ground or we could be looking at (bones buried) two years ago. We just don’t know,” Police Sgt. Art Wiechmann said. Police will decide whether to investigate after they receive forensic results.
