FLIP SIDE: California Teacher of the Year isn’t quite what it used to be. The 1992 winner, Maria Vigil, who teaches kindergarten at Las Lomas Elementary in La Habra, is finding that out. . . . The past four years, winners got a $15,000 check by a corporate sponsor. This year’s sponsor had to back out, citing recession woes. But that hasn’t jarred Vigil’s enthusiasm. She is now one of four finalists for the national top teacher. The President will name the winner in April.
