What a Trip: President Bush has recovered from the flu he caught in Japan last week and feels great, but Burton Lee, Bush’s personal physician, is not surprised that Bush still isn’t able to sleep snugly these days. Said Lee: “Who does? Who can? Tokyo was murder. I don’t feel well.”

Take That: Don’t tangle with Virthel. An alleged purse thief in Philadelphia made that mistake and got a run for the money. Virthel Jones, 81, was sweeping her porch Tuesday when James Brown, 39, faked a toothache and asked for aspirin. When Jones went to the kitchen, Brown snatched her purse. She gave chase and caught up with him two blocks away just as a neighbor tackled the man. Then Jones socked him, bloodying his nose. He was in jail Wednesday, unable to make bail.

Open Sesame: Henry B. Gonzalez was “shocked” to learn recently that some federal files on the assassination of John F. Kennedy are sealed until 2029, so the Texas congressman says he will ask the House to reverse itself and release the documents. Gonzalez said sealing the records is troubling, considering a House committee suspected a conspiracy. The secrecy “has compounded the problems,” Gonzalez says.

Altar on the Horizon: “Three more divorces, then it’ll be just him and me,” nurse Nancy Martz said after her intended, Larry J. McMillan, was sentenced to three years’ probation after pleading guilty to a bigamy charge in Salt Lake City. Three of McMillan’s wives, just a few feet away in court, scowled as Martz beamed. “She’d better make sure I’m divorced from him first,” said one.
