Woman’s $25,000 Prize Goes to Holy Angels

Holy Angels School in Arcadia has gotten $25,000, thanks to a Temple City woman.

Ralphs Grocery Co. last week presented a $25,000 check to Holy Angels on behalf of Janice DeVore of Temple City.

DeVore won $25,000 in a promotion in which Ralphs donates matching prizes to local schools selected by customers winning major prizes. DeVore, whose own children are grown, chose Holy Angels because a friend’s child attends the school.

Principal Anne Johnson said no firm decisions have been made on how to spend the school’s money, but she is looking into playground equipment.

DeVore, 49, has raised 22 foster children in addition to her own three. The retired real estate agent has lived in Temple City since 1986, when she and her husband James moved from Oklahoma.

“The money is in the bank right now,” she said, “but we are going to use part of it to go to Iowa to visit our two grandchildren and our parents.”
