Two Santa Paula men and a youth were injured early Monday in a freeway drive-by shooting that left one of them in critical condition, authorities said.

Richard Flores, 20, was in critical but stable condition in the intensive-care unit of Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after undergoing surgery Monday, a hospital official said.

A spokeswoman declined to describe Flores’ injuries, saying only that the gunshot wounds were “too many to go into.”

Jose Magana, 19, was in good condition with unspecified gunshot-related injuries.

Henry Guerrero, 15, was treated and released for a wound that he suffered when a bullet grazed his head, hospital officials said.

The three were driving west on the Santa Paula Freeway at Hallock Drive near the eastern edge of Santa Paula at 1 a.m. Monday when shots were fired from a passing car.

Bullets struck them and their car, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said.

The deputies said information was still sketchy on the suspects and they did not know whether the shooting was gang-related.
