KNBC Hurts Itself in Releasing Marshall
KNBC President and General Manager L. Reed Manville released veteran reporter John Marshall because he doesn’t “fit” on the new manager’s “team”(“Axing ‘the Best Reporter in Town,’ ” Jan. 22).
Excuse me, coach, but is your computer on line?
Unlike a sports manager, a station manager has to keep a player or release him to the competition free of charge. No trading of talent in this game. No future draft picks. No second string. You start or you pack.
John Marshall has been the most intelligent, insightful and articulate television reporter in recent memory. His stories take to the air like a guided missile--always on target.
Releasing Marshall to the competition is like allowing George Foreman the first punch. Plan on being supine for a while. Not a good position for a novice general manager in a ratings war.
