1 Killed, 2 Injured in Head-On Collision

A 23-year-old Palmdale man was killed early Monday in a head-on collision on Soledad Canyon Road that injured an Acton woman and a 2-year-old child, the California Highway Patrol said.

Scott Vath died instantly after his pickup truck, heading south on Soledad Canyon Road east of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, crossed into the northbound lane and hit a pickup driven by Rebekah Eastman, 49, CHP Officer John Manduca said.

Eastman and her passenger, a 2-year-old boy, were not wearing seat belts. They were taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she was in serious but stable condition with broken ribs and teeth and bruises to her chest, a hospital spokeswoman said. The child had minor injuries and required stitches for a cut on his forehead, Manduca said.
