Rosemead : County Hospital Opposed
The City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday opposing construction of a county hospital on a vacant parcel at Walnut Grove Avenue and Rush Street.
The site is one of several identified by the county Department of Health Services as a potential location for a new medical center in the San Gabriel Valley.
Before the vote, several residents of Rosemead and neighboring South San Gabriel told the council they do not want the facility so close to their homes.
Councilman Gary A. Taylor also noted that the lot is on an active fault line where commercial buildings have been seriously damaged.
In the same resolution, the council recommended an alternative site between Workman Mill Road and the San Gabriel River Freeway (605) in an unincorporated area near the community of Bassett.
