A 28-year-old San Diego man who reportedly threatened police with a 12-inch butcher knife held over his head has been arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics, police said.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday when officers arrived at a residence in the 4600 block of F Street, where Khammay Phalouka allegedly had locked his father out of the house and had begun tearing furniture inside, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Officers entered the house through the back door and, once inside, found Phalouka acting erratically while holding the knife.

Phalouka then ran inside a bedroom and locked the door, which one of the police officers kicked in, Robinson said.

Phalouka, knife held above his head, threatened a group of officers who stood about 5 feet away. The 20-minute ordeal ended when Phalouka began shaking uncontrollably and dropped the knife on the bedroom floor.

Police said they later determined that Phalouka had taken the drug crystal methamphetamine.
