Smoking Ban
The restaurant lobby claims that if the City of Los Angeles adopts a no-smoking ordinance diners will flock to Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills had a no-smoking ordinance, but rescinded it because restaurant owners claimed that diners were flocking to Los Angeles.
If Los Angeles, with its expansive city limits, were to adopt the no-smoking ordinance, I’ll bet Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and other cities would be quick to follow.
The restaurant lobby’s defeatist dialogue also applied to the airlines no-smoking policy and, lo and behold, I can now fly from coast to coast without inhaling secondhand smoke!
