OJAI VALLEY : School Trustees Approve Contract

Share

A three-year contract with no cost-of-living increases was approved Tuesday night by trustees of the Ojai Valley Unified School District for classified employees.

The agreement, approved last week by members of the California School Employees Assn., permits reopening salary negotiations if the district receives any unrestricted money from the state. Officials anticipate some new revenue because of increased enrollment, but warned that it is needed to bolster reserves.

The contract, effective from November, 1991, through October, 1994, affects about 150 employees, most of whom work part time. They include secretaries, clerks, teaching aides, bus drivers, grounds workers, custodians, business office personnel and cafeteria workers.

Classified salaries and benefits make up about $2.6 million in the district’s $13.9-million budget, said Leo Molitor, business manager. Another $17,000 will be needed in next fiscal year’s budget to meet contract step increases, he said.

A starting custodian makes $9.04 an hour, secretaries $9.27 an hour and teaching aides $7.44 an hour. Benefits depend on hours worked.
