Ivy Hodder Bailey; Community Volunteer

Ivy Hodder Bailey, a longtime west San Fernando Valley volunteer, has died at her Woodland Hills home. She was 95.

A longtime Woodland Hills resident, Mrs. Bailey died Tuesday of complications of her advanced age, said her son, Dr. Robert H. Bailey of Woodland Hills.

Born in Bristol, England, she came to the United States in 1925 and lived in Southern California most of her life. She worked as a receptionist for her husband, Dr. Frank W. Bailey, who practiced neurosurgery in Canoga Park from 1959 until his death in 1965. The daughter of Salvation Army officers, Mrs. Bailey served on the Salvation Army’s advisory council for adult rehabilitation centers in Canoga Park and Van Nuys in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Bailey served several terms as president of the Friends of the Canoga Park Library and was active with the Canoga Park Woman’s Club, the Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce and the First United Methodist Church of Canoga Park.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughter, Catherine M. Groomer of Woodland Hills; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church of Canoga Park at 22700 Sherman Way. Private burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills. Forest Lawn Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
