COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Gymnast Delia Sets School Record

Celeste Delia set a school record with 38.80 points in the all-around as Cal State Fullerton defeated UC Davis, 186.95-182.30, in a nonconference women’s gymnastics meet at Titan Gym Friday night.

Delia won three of the four individual events outright and was tied with Davis’ Yuri Hinson on the floor exercises to surpass the mark of 38.65 set March 3, 1989, by Stacey Harris and Gina Satterly and equaled by Harris last year.

Fullerton is 3-2.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 86, Chapman 75--Rog Middleton had 30 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort for the visiting Panthers. Brian Kenney added 14 points.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cal State Northridge 77, Chapman 65--The visiting Panthers failed to overcome a 41-25 halftime deficit as the Matadors won for the first time after starting the season with 21 losses.

Guard Melody Earle had 19 for Chapman (9-12) and center Marvette Williams added 18.

Forward Shagarro Latin had 19 points (including seven-for-seven free throws) and nine rebounds for Northridge.

In the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn.

USC 3, UC Irvine 0--Pat Ivie had 15 kills as the host Trojans improved to 4-1, 2-0. Chad Milling had nine kills for the Anteaters (3-3, 1-3).

In the National Indoor Intercollegiate Tennis Championships:

Leach’s doubles team advances--Jon Leach, a USC sophomore and Laguna Beach High graduate, teamed with Brian MacPhie to defeat Adam Krafft and Brian Uihlein of Minnesota, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, in a quarterfinal match.

Leach and MacPhie entered the tournament as a wild-card entry. Krafft and Uihlein are 15th on the Volvo Tennis/Collegiate Rankings.

The Minneapolis tournament is one of four comprising the collegiate grand slam.

In women’s tennis:

UC Irvine 8, Cal State Fullerton 1--Cory Crigger and Biljana Korac each won their matches, 6-0, 6-0, as the Anteaters improved to 2-2.

Roseann Alva defeated Kelly Goldsborough, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles for the Titans’ point.
