A police officer’s fast radio work helped apprehend a motorist allegedly involved in an early-morning hit-and-run incident that left one man dead.

Traffic investigator Michael Clabaugh said police Sgt. Paul Prince was routinely patrolling Brookhurst Street shortly after midnight when he noticed a car hit an object.

When Prince approached the scene, he found a man’s body sprawled in the street.

Prince immediately posted a description of the car over the police radio and a few minutes later, police stopped a dented black Renault.

Kenneth Crowder, 35, of Anaheim was arrested and later charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence. He was being held at the Orange County Jail on Monday night.

The victim, who was not carrying identification, was described as about 27 years old, wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans. Police say the man has a tattoo in the shape of a cross on his right hand and another of a spider web on his right shoulder.

Police said the motorist was driving north on Brookhurst at Westminster Avenue when he hit the pedestrian who was crossing the street.

The victim was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he later died.
