VENTURA : Fence to Be Built at Mental Facility

Share

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved a proposal Tuesday to build a five-foot fence around a mental facility near the Ventura County Medical Center.

The $8,800 fence will be erected in about two weeks, county officials said. It will surround the Mental Health Services facility at 300 N. Hillmont Ave., which houses 28 patients.

The fence will not encompass the medical center, however, from where 25-year-old mental patient Kevin Kolodziej walked away last month and allegedly stabbed to death Ventura resident Velasta Johnson, 90.

Johnson’s relatives were happy with the board’s decision, said Supervisor Susan Lacey, author of the proposal.
