Traffic Amnesty Program Nets $23,000 on 1st Day

The Los Angeles Municipal Court collected more than $23,000 on the first day of the statewide Traffic Amnesty Program, officials said.

The one-time amnesty program, which began Feb. 1 and runs through April 30, allows motorists to pay for most delinquent traffic citations received in California before April 1, 1991. The program gives traffic violators a chance to pay their fines at a discounted rate and no longer have traffic warrants on their records.

All Los Angeles Municipal Court locations are taking a reduced bail of 70% of the total amount owed on traffic tickets--except reckless driving, driving under the influence and parking violations--to clear the outstanding violations, Court Administrator Ed Kritzman said.
