OXNARD : Suspect Sought in 8 Bank Robberies

Oxnard police and the FBI are looking for a man suspected of robbing eight Ventura County banks, the latest on Monday, officials said Tuesday.

The man, who typically gives a bank teller a handwritten note demanding money, is suspected of robbing six banks in Oxnard, one in Camarillo and, most recently, one in Port Hueneme, said FBI Agent Gary Auer. The first robbery took place Dec. 17, Auer said.

The FBI is seeking the public’s help identifying the robber.

Auer said nearly all bank robbery cases are solved within a day or two once a photo has been published in newspapers. In most cases, the suspects are turned in by family members, friends or fellow workers, he said.

“Many times the parents will call us because they want to make sure their son or daughter gets caught before they are killed,” he said.

The FBI believes that the suspect may live in Oxnard because most of the robberies occurred there, Auer said.

The suspect is believed to be a 25-year-old Latino, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He is described as having a thin face, clear complexion, a mustache and brown-rimmed prescription glasses.

Auer said anyone with information about the suspect may call the Oxnard police at 486-4311 or the FBI in Ventura at 642-3995.
