OXNARD : Man Held in Series of Bank Robberies

An Oxnard man wanted in connection with a series of bank robberies in Ventura County has been arrested, authorities said Friday.

David Henry Menendez, 31, was apprehended at his home without incident Thursday night by officials from the FBI and the Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments, authorities said.

Charlie Parsons, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles office, said that Menendez was booked on suspicion of robbing at least six banks in Oxnard, Camarillo and Port Hueneme between Dec. 17, 1991, and Feb. 10. The Feb. 10 heist involved the Bank of A. Levy on North Ventura Road in Port Hueneme, Parsons said.

Port Hueneme Officer Bill Ayub said a fingerprint picked up from a note the robber gave a bank teller during the Feb. 10 robbery connected him to the other robberies. About $1,200 was taken from the Port Hueneme bank, he said.

If convicted, Menendez could be sentenced to of 20 years in prison and fined $5,000 for each robbery.
