Although Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” created a stir at the recent Sundance Film Festival and is quite the buzz around Hollywood, don’t look for it in theaters anytime soon. It doesn’t have a distributor yet, though Tarantino says that is all about to change.

“We will be settling that up in the next week or two,” says Tarantino. “As of right now, it’s down to two companies and we’re just working out the final details.” Although he declined to name the two finalists, Tarantino did say neither is one of “the large conglomerates.”

He showed the film, which is described as a very violent caper film in the vein of Stanley Kubrick’s “The Killing,” to executives of larger studios, including TriStar and Universal--both of whom turned it down. (The movie has been rated R.)

“I showed it to them as a courtesy,” he says. “They were interested in seeing it, but it’s not their kind of film. I knew that when I screened it for them.

“To tell you the truth, even if they had wanted to release it, I don’t think it would’ve been the best thing for the film,” Tarantino says. “This is an art-house release. A company that would be good for this film would be something like Miramax or New Line. That’s what we really want.”
