Walnut : City OKs King Holiday
Beginning next year, the city will join the state and federal governments in observing the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
In a 5-0 vote, the City Council agreed to close City Hall every third Monday of January to honor King. City employees, however, will not get an extra day off. They will be required to give up one of their two floating holidays to accommodate the new observance.
According to a staff report, only six of 18 area cities surveyed observe the King holiday by closing their city halls.
