HARRY SHEARER

Given Santa Monica’s inability to provide basic services, Harry Shearer’s comments concerning the city’s efforts to decorate the beach (“Beach Blanket Bungle,” Jan. 12) are humorous but not entirely factual.
The two concrete “performing art platforms” at Ocean Park Beach, which Shearer contends are only appreciated by the homeless, are used by runners like myself and others who enjoy sunning and stretching on top of the concrete platforms on weekend mornings. The top surface of the platform is full of interesting patterns and shapes cast in the concrete, and I have not seen a homeless person sleeping atop the platforms since they were installed.
