CBS, NBC Squabble Over ‘In the Heat of the Night’: CBS, which earlier this season picked up the comedy series “Davis Rules” from ABC, said it will take over the NBC drama “In the Heat of the Night” next season. But whereas ABC consented to the move of “Davis Rules,” NBC’s approval was not forthcoming. Officially, the network had no comment, but an executive said nothing had changed since last Friday, when NBC maintained that it still had the option to negotiate with the MGM/UA Television Production Group for a fifth season of “In the Heat of the Night.” Ratings have fallen this season, however, and NBC has not decided whether it wants the Tuesday night series back.
