A bank robber known to the FBI as the “Clearasil Bandit” because he had an acne problem has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison.

The sentencing on Tuesday, however, may not be the last court appearance for Mark Chirico, 24, of Normal Heights.

His attorney, David Bartick, said his client wants to sue the FBI for libel for making fun of his acne problem. Bartick said he will not handle that suit, adding that “it could have been worse. He could have been called the B.O. Bandit,” referring to a Poway man given the nickname by the FBI after he robbed several banks.

Chirico pleaded guilty Nov. 12 to robbing a Security Pacific Bank in El Cajon of $3,332 last July 16. He was not charged with nine other bank robberies in the “Clearasil Bandit” series in return for his guilty plea.
