Glendale : Time Off for Principals

Share

The Board of Education has voted tentatively to reduce the work year of 11 elementary school principals by approximately three weeks as a cost-saving measure.

After a closed session, the board voted unanimously Tuesday to have principals report to school three weeks later in August, reducing their schedule to 10 1/4 months.

The board will make a final decision before June 30, 1992.

The reduction in principals’ salaries, which average $55,000, will save the Glendale Unified School District $56,000, said Supt. Robert Sanchis. The district faces a $6.7-million budget deficit in the 1992-1993 fiscal year.

Only the principals of schools on the traditional school calendar will be affected by the schedule reduction. There are eight other year-round elementary schools in the district.
