Polish Parrot Prompts a Squawk
A British retiree who bought a talking parrot for company struggled to understand its chatter--until he realized the bird was speaking Polish.
All was revealed when Harold Arthur heard that a parrot reared by a Polish couple had been stolen from a pet shop.
“I thought it was a bit odd that I couldn’t understand a thing he cackled,” said Arthur, 67, of Bristol in western England. “I then realized he was gibbering away in Polish.”
One of the parrot’s lines was “ Kto jest ten ladny chlopczyk ?” Translation: “Who’s a pretty boy, then?”
Police arrested a man for selling the stolen bird, and Arthur swapped the bird at the shop for an English-speaking one.
