Baseball Industry Is in Big Trouble

Share

Baseball is in a real pickle when it comes to the spiraling costs of operations, particularly players’ salaries, and the expiration of the CBS television contract that lurks on the horizon. Sunday’s articles on this subject failed to mention the biggest reason that pay-per-view will never work. Beside the fact that there are far too many games, each being less than critical to the standings and overall outcome, the presence of ESPN’s Sports Center has made pay-per-view in any form a risky proposition at best.

Who in their right mind would pay to watch a two-hour regular-season baseball game when you can turn on ESPN’s Sports Center and get highlights from the whole league.
