The bodies of two men were discovered by police Saturday inside a home in an exclusive neighborhood here, triggering an investigation of a possible double homicide.

Orange Police Sgt. Steve Ames said officers found the bodies of the unidentified men when they responded to a call at 11:56 a.m. asking police to check on someone who lived in the 1100 block of Ridgeline Road in Orange Park Acres.

Ames said police are investigating the crime as a double homicide, but neighbors said police told them that it might also be a murder-suicide.

By Saturday night, police had cordoned off the home, which overlooks Ridgeline Country Club, and investigators were taking pictures inside.

Authorities provided no information about how the men died or when the deaths occurred.

The coroner’s office had not removed the bodies as of 9 p.m.

Neighbors in the community of million-dollar homes said they did not know much about the occupant of the house, who was described simply as a man in his 40s.

A realty sign stood in the front yard. A neighbor said the man had moved in about six months ago.

A visitor in a house across the street, Frances Andorka, 74, said she heard a sound about 11 a.m. Friday that she described as louder than a car backfiring.

Andorka, who is bedridden, said she thought at the time that it might have been a gunshot.
