A 34-year-old transient was arrested Sunday in the early-morning fatal shooting of a Lancaster man, who revealed the name of a suspected gunman moments before he died, authorities said.

Phillip Allison was being held without bail on suspicion of killing Jose Sanchez, 23, said Beth Arterberry, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Sanchez was standing in the alley behind an apartment building in the 45000 block of North Cedar Avenue in Lancaster about 1:15 a.m. when he was approached by two men, Arterberry said. Several shots were fired at Sanchez, who was struck in the upper body, she said.

Sanchez managed to mutter a name before he was pronounced dead at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, Lt. Antonio Madrid said.

Homicide detectives arrested Allison several blocks from the scene, Arterberry said, and investigators also recovered a revolver believed to have been used in the shooting.

Detectives were still investigating the shooting, which one official said may have been drug-related.
