Santa Ana Man, 19, Drowns in Gentle Surf
A 19-year-old man drowned Sunday while swimming in relatively gentle surf, local police said.
Ricardo Soto Ruiz of Santa Ana was given resuscitation on the beach after he was pulled from the surf shortly after 3 p.m. in the 7100 block of West Ocean Front, Police Lt. Don Chandler said.
“The victim was swimming in small surf and for unknown reasons drowned. There are no reasons . . . (to suspect) foul play,” Chandler said.
Soto was pulled from the water by Pat Detken, 20, of Fountain Valley. The victim was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, where he was reported dead on arrival, Chandler said.
