RUSSIA’S LOSS: UCI has lured a renowned Russian theoretical physicist to its ranks. . . . Igor Dzyaloshinskii, until recently the head of Moscow’s Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, chose UCI after visiting a number of U.S. universities. The attraction was the concentration of physicists working in his area--condensed matter physics. “This is a very good department,” said UCI physicist Walter E. Bron. “With Dzyaloshinskii, it gets even better.”
