CYPRESS : Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
A Cypress man pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter after a jury deadlocked on murder charges in the stabbing death of the defendant’s friend.
Jose Angel Briseno Jr., 18, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Superior Court Judge Richard L. Weatherspoon. The judge ordered that Briseno be housed at a California Youth Authority facility until his 25th birthday.
Briseno acknowledged that he stabbed Arthur D. Smith, 17, a friend and neighbor, in Smith’s garage on Aug. 31, 1991, after an argument. Smith had been stabbed 11 times.
