Jeanne LaCock Macaro; Entertainers’ Mother

Jeanne LaCock Macaro, mother of actress Joanne Dru and TV host Peter Marshall, has died at a Van Nuys hospital. She was 89.

A longtime Sherman Oaks resident, Mrs. Macaro died Feb. 29 of complications of Parkinson’s disease, said Marshall, of Encino.

Born in Huntington, West Va., Macaro came to California in the early 1940s and worked as an inspector at Hughes Aircraft from the mid-1940s until the mid-1960s. She became involved with Motion Picture Mothers in the 1960s, serving as president in 1975 and 1976. Mrs. Macaro was also active in raising money for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

She was the mother of Dru, whose films include “Red River” (1948) and “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” (1949), and Marshall, who hosted “Hollywood Squares” from 1966 to 1981.

Mrs. Macaro is also survived by her son, David Moss of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Praiswater Funeral Home in Van Nuys is handling the arrangements. Donations may be made in Mrs. Macaro’s name to the Motion Picture Mothers, 23300 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills 91364.
