TOUGHER LAWS: State Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach) says her legislation on domestic violence has an “excellent chance” of becoming law now that it has picked up support from Gov. Pete Wilson (A31). The senator says society can’t “turn the other cheek” when family quarrels turn violent with the excuse that it protects a family’s privacy. . . . Her bill would increase fines and jail terms for those violating a judge’s order in such cases. Bergeson says women and children must be protected from “abusive, hostile and uncaring environments.”
